Kumarakom
Kumarakom is on man-made land reclaimed from the vast Vembanad
Lake. It has only a thousand years story to tell.
The modern history of this exotic backwater village started with
the arrival of the English farmer Alfred George Baker in 1847.
He reclaimed 500 acres of Vembanad Lake and made garden land and
paddy fields. Situated in the Kottayam district of Kerala, which
is already known for its lush greenery, this exotic backwater
village adds more than a sparkle to it. The landscape basically
consists of a cluster of island villages in and around the large
"Vembanad Kayal" backwater body (which is also, incidentally
the largest in Kerala), with a plethora of branched bodies all
lined by beautiful, thick, lush and peaceful greenery. A large
number of coconut trees line the horizon to add the perfect tropical
touch to the landscape. |
|
Kumarakom enjoys
a well-balanced tropical climate. The lowest and highest temperatures
recorded are 60.8 Fahrenheit and 90 Fahrenheit. There is always
a cool, fresh breeze, which makes even the warmest weather readily
agreeable after sundown. The South West monsoon is from early
June to early August. However, slight drizzles persist till early
November. Average rainfall is 1100 mm per year.

Alleppy
– houseboat
Alleppey, is a town in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of
southern India. A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches,
and lagoons, it was described as the one of the places known as
Venice of the East by Lord Curzon. Kuttanad, the rice bowl of
Kerala with the unending stretch of green paddy fields, small
streams and canals with lush green coconut palms. The exciting
and unforgettable boat cruises between Alleppey and Kollam offer
intimate glimpses of backwater life and an unforgettable journey
watching Coir making, boat building, toddy tapping, fish farming
and the rugged village life.
The Houseboats of Kerala are a new addition to
the travel and tourism of Alleppy’s backwaters. These crafts,
measuring up to 120 feet in length, retrieved from the age old
cargo vessels of the State. Once they ruled the backwaters, poled
along by one or two men, heavily loaded with rice, coconut and
other commodities. |
But in the recent
times, these big vessels have been replaced by more and modern
modes of transport, relegating them to neglect and decay. But
like the phoenix it again raises to the attention of the modern
world, with a difference – this time the cargo is comfort
and rippling relaxation.
House boating can be the most relaxing experience for any age,
size or type of people.
Please contact us for tour assistance and house boat arrangements

Kovalam
Kovalam is famous for its beaches, among the most pristine in
India. It is about 17 km from Thiruvananthapuram city, the capital

of the then Travancore kingdom discovered the potentiality of

Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals
of the masses of hippies. That started the transformation of a
casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important
tourist destinations in all India- the Kovalam beach. It is now
a most clean and beautiful beach in Kerala.
